We held our 2nd Annual Forman Scholars Dinner and Celebration on June 20, 2016, at the First Baptist Church in Salem. This event was designed to foster a community of learning and support among the Forman Scholars and our foundation, and it is also a great way to celebrate the success of our scholars!
Our Board Chair, Jean Blauvelt, opened the event by offering some welcome remarks, which you can read here. A few of the student participants also shared their thoughts on the evening, and what they learned:
- “I enjoyed interacting among scholars and sharing wisdom about college life. I realized that everyone in college is in the same boat so you are not alone.”
- “I really enjoyed just being in the company of everyone associated with the Foundation. I also realized just how long ago high school feels!”
- “During the circle and panel discussion, I learned that I don’t have to be the smartest, and that I should be exploring many new and different things.”
- “I learned from older scholars that it is OK not to know certain material because there may be someone else in the class with the same questions as you.”
One board member commented that it was “great to get to know our scholars personally and to learn how unique and special each scholar is!” We thank everyone for attending.
We are already looking forward to our next celebration in June 2017!
