Acorn Fund Account Holders Thankful for College Care Packages Sent from Forman Youth Board
Earlier this winter season, student members on the Forman Youth Board brainstormed unique and meaningful ways to connect with students near and far no matter the distance. They wanted to help Acorn Fund account holders feel more at home while away at college. The result was something very special.
In December, our Youth Board assembled College Student Care Packages, including treats and surprises Acorn Fund account holders currently in college who may need an extra boost towards the end of a hardworking semester. Members of the Youth Board were so thrilled to have a hand in assembling the packages and sending them off to unexpecting students.
“I enjoy serving on the Youth Board because it allows us as students to aid our fellow classmates and change our city of Salem,” Youth Board Member Andrew Cadwallader said. “Participating as a member on the Youth Board has brought me closer to Salem. The care packages were so much fun to put together. We all worked together to ensure the care packages were made correctly – I think we double checked them three times! I think we made our scholars very happy with these packages.”
Youth Board Member Elinor Frank shared the same excitement and looks forward to continuing the new tradition of care packages when she is in college next year.
“I loved how surprised everyone was at the number of students we were helping and how well-made the gifts were,” Youth Board Member Elinor Frank said. “As I put together the care packages, I got excited for next year because I’ll be in college and may receive a care package. I think the students were excited to receive their packages and surprised to see all of the gifts.”
The special selection of items included blankets, snacks, motivational themed items and much more! The Youth Board was so excited to put together such thoughtful packages. Read on to hear about how fellow students reacted when they finally opened them!
“Thank you so much for the care package. It was full of surprises and much needed items during my final exams. The blanket is so warm and cozy. Your continued support is very much appreciated. Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas to all!”
- Katie Ridgway, Rowan University
“The care package is amazing! Thank you so much! I received the care package yesterday. I want to personally thank the Foundation for the care package, especially Kim and the Youth Board. It is truly appreciated. Have a Happy Thanksgiving!”
- Mariah Pierce, Rutgers University
“I hope all is well. My Master’s program has been an interesting ride so far. It’s been challenging, but I’m enjoying it. I received the Acorn care package with all of the wonderful goodies included! Thank you so much – it is wonderful!”
- Dominique Johnson, Salisbury University
“I just got my care package! I wanted to say thank you to the entire Foundation. It was so incredibly sweet, with some pretty awesome items. It’s been a little stressful with finals week so soon and assignments due before Thanksgiving break, so this was such a nice surprise. It made my day! Thank you again!”
- Michaela DuBois, Bucknell University
In the Winter of 2018, students organized to make an impact on the community in meaningful ways by creating the Forman Youth Board. On the Youth Board students learn how to get ready for college, prepare for the educational journey, and think about career-readiness. Students meet regularly to learn as well as brainstorm ideas to help fellow students prepare for college. In addition to these great skill developing lessons, students also discuss financial, educational, social and emotional based training, attend college preparation and support workshops, build strong and sustainable relationships, and even job interview preparation skills. As you can see there’s no limit of creativity and inspiration that can come out of these meetings.
