It may be hard to believe, but 2019 is almost here! For Acorn Fund account holders, that means one important thing is coming up.
If you're ready to use your Acorn Fund account savings to pay for 2019 spring semester college expenses, you can request a payment directly to your college starting December 3. The deadline to request payment is January 4, 2019, and when you request your funds to be distributed, they should arrive at your college by January 21, 2019.
Note, our Acorn Fund distribution form has changed. In order to request the funds you will need to have your:
Social security number.
College office where you send tuition payments. (ex. Bursar’s Office, Office of Student Accounts, etc.)
College office street address.
College account or student identification number.
When requesting funds, applicants will notice a brand new look when they click on the application link. With this new portal, all Acorn Fund graduates will have an opportunity to create their own application account and update their contact information when they request a distribution.
Once you complete the request, the Forman S. Acton Foundation will take care of the rest. The funds will will go directly to your college, and you’ll know it’s received when you see a credit in your account.
Remember: withdrawing the money may reduce any financial aid you receive from other sources, so it may be in your best interest to actually wait until after freshman or sophomore years to request your funds. That’s totally up to you, but if you do receive other forms of financial aid that are tied to your family’s income, we’d recommend doing some research into how that aid could be affected.
