Forman S. Acton Educational Foundation Proudly Assists Students with College Deposit Payments Amid COVID-19 Pandemic

These challenging times have presented high school graduates and their families with plenty of uncertainty as universities across the country make plans for the upcoming fall semester.

In light of these unprecedented times, the Forman S. Acton Educational Foundation has explored meaningful new ways to help students and their families. Since 2016, the Foundation has provided a free college savings account, named the Acorn Fund, to students living or attending public school in Salem City.

We are proud to share that this spring, for the first time, we offered Acorn Fund account holders who graduated from high school an opportunity to have their initial college deposit paid by the Foundation. To date, 25 Acorn Fund account holders have received these funds and will be attending 16 different colleges across our region and beyond, including:

  • Pennsylvania: Thomas Jefferson University, Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania, Susquehanna University and Lehigh University
  • New Jersey: Kean University, William Paterson University, Rowan University, Drew University, Rowan College of South Jersey, Stockton University, Fairleigh Dickinson University, and Rutgers University
  • Georgia: Spelman College
  • Maryland: Towson University and Morgan State University
  • Delaware: Wesley College

“Despite the current climate, we’re pleased to continue supporting educational opportunities for Acorn Fund account holders to pursue their academic dreams,” said Larry Van Meter, President and CEO of the Forman S. Acton Educational Foundation. “We hope this financial assistance, along with support from our staff, will help ease students’ transition to college during what has already been a very challenging time for students and families all across the country.”

We’ve already heard from many appreciative students who have said this college deposit initiative has really made a difference for them. “This offer is amazingly appreciated. Thank you,” wrote one of our families on Facebook. “Thank you so very much! My daughter and I appreciate it. This is awesome for college-bound seniors,” wrote another family.

We are thrilled to be able to offer Acorn Fund account holders this assistance as they begin their college journey!
