New Changes to Forman S. Acton Educational Foundation Scholarships Expands Eligibility to Additional Salem City Students

Those familiar with the Forman S. Acton Educational Foundation know that students selected as Forman Scholars are eligible to receive up to $40,000 during their undergraduate college years.

This year for the first time, the Forman S. Acton Educational Foundation is accepting scholarship applications from students in their junior year at Salem High School as well as from also juniors living in Salem City and attending a school in the Salem County Vocational Technical School District, or attending one of the public Salem County high schools that are open to enrollment to Salem City students.

Applications are being accepted from April 1 through May 31, 2018 from members of the June 2019 graduating class.

“We want to make sure we’re giving students who live in Salem City a chance to earn a scholarship and become one of our esteemed Forman Scholars, so we’re excited to be able to offer this scholarship opportunity to more students than ever before,” said Jean S. Blauvelt, Chair of the Forman S. Acton Foundation Board of Trustees.

In addition to residence requirements, applicants must also meet certain academic and financial need requirements to be eligible for a scholarship. Upon meeting all requirements and being selected as a Forman Scholar, students will meet periodically with the Scholarship Director during their senior year to receive coaching and college preparatory services from the foundation. In addition, they may also participate in foundation events and activities.

Upon graduation in June 2019, Forman Scholars will be eligible for scholarships of $10,000 per year at their chosen college or university as long as they have continued to meet the eligibility criteria during their senior year in high school. In addition, Forman Scholars continue to receive deposits into their Acorn Fund accounts while in college. Our scholarships are renewable annually, if criteria for ongoing scholarship awards are met.

Since its inception, the Forman S. Acton Educational Foundation has identified 31 Forman Scholars, including seven new Scholars heading off to college this fall, and awarded more than $375,000 in scholarships. Beyond exemplary academic achievement and financial need, each of these students has demonstrated an enthusiasm for furthering their education and supporting their fellow Scholars both in and out of the college classroom.

“Each year, we continue to be amazed by the passion, work ethic and maturity of our incredible Forman Scholars,” said Blauvelt. “These students truly have come together as a group and are always willing to help each other in any way they can. We couldn’t be prouder of our Forman Scholars and can’t wait to meet our next group later this year!”
