Acorn Fund Account Holders Appreciative of College Care Packages Sent from Forman Youth Board

Regardless of whether college students have returned to their campuses to resume in-person learning or remain at home to continue learning remotely, the Spring 2021 semester has been stressful. During these trying times, the members of the Forman Youth Board wanted to continue their tradition of sending care packages to Acorn Fund account holders currently studying in college as a way to connect with their peers during this time of physical separation and, hopefully, brighten their day.

Distributed in March, the College Student Care Packages sent by the Youth Board included treats and surprises Acorn Fund account holders currently in college can use to gain an extra boost as they reach the midpoint of a productive yet tiresome semester. The special selection of items included delicious snacks, exciting games and cleaning supplies. The packages even included personal protective equipment so students can stay safe on campus or at home as the COVID-19 pandemic continues.

Read on to hear how fellow students reacted when they saw what was inside!

In the Winter of 2018, students organized to make an impact on the community in meaningful ways by creating the Forman Youth Board. On the Youth Board, students learn how to get ready for college, prepare for the educational journey and think about career readiness. Although the COVID-19 pandemic has prevented in-person gatherings, students typically meet to learn as well as brainstorm ideas to help fellow students prepare for college. In addition to these great skill-building lessons, students also discuss financial-, educational-, social- and emotional-based training; attend college preparation and support workshops; build strong and stable relationships; and even build up job interview preparation skills.
