Sports enthusiast and Forman Scholar Destiny LeFlore is taking her love and appreciation for sports to a whole new level this fall. After graduating from Salem High School, Destiny plans to study sports marketing and business analytics at St. Joseph's University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Being involved with sports has shaped Destiny into who she is today.  A valued member of Salem High’s varsity field hockey and track teams, Destiny was also a team manager for the boys' basketball and football teams. She realized what it took to run a team successfully, and pursuing a career in the sports industry will allow her to remain an integral part of the game.

“I want to study sports marketing because, one day, I want to work behind the scenes and support some of my favorite sports franchises,” Destiny said.

St. Joseph’s University offers a program that will provide Destiny with plenty of learning opportunities both inside and outside the classroom, while also opening doors to different sports-related internships in the surrounding area. She aspires one day to work for the Chicago Bulls, her favorite basketball team. Destiny is not only excited about the educational part of her college experience but also for living on campus and meeting new people.

“I am most excited about the new life experience I will be participating in. There is so much to the world, and I can’t wait to see it,” Destiny said.

While at Salem High School, Destiny was involved in the Future Business Leaders of America, Chess Club, Ambassadors Club, Career Club, Interact Club and the prestigious International Baccalaureate Program. Despite such an extensive and impressive extracurricular record, she still made time to enjoy everyday hobbies, such as reading, exercising and putting puzzles together. Destiny relished the lessons of her favorite history teachers and felt the classes she took at Salem prepared her well for the rigors of college.

“My teachers at Salem always pushed me to produce my best work,” Destiny said.

Born and raised in Salem, Destiny appreciates the small-town feel of her community. “While Salem is on the smaller side, everyone knows each other, supports each other and gets along,” Destiny said. Salem has prepared her to work hard and to be ambitious in life.

As Destiny prepares to embark on this next phase of her life, she encourages Salem’s rising juniors and seniors to be proactive when it comes to the college search process.

“Looking back, I should have done more research about the various schools I was looking at, but I’m confident in my decision and ecstatic to launch my college career!”
