Forman S. Acton Educational Foundation Provides Opportunities For Salem Students To Attend Rowan University Summer Camps Free Of Charge
The Forman S. Acton Educational Foundation is proud to announce it is offering Salem City students the opportunity to attend a number of in-person workshops hosted by Rowan University this summer at no cost.
While the COVID-19 pandemic may be keeping many Salem students stuck inside and learning from home this school year, the Foundation hopes Rowan’s workshops will allow middle and high school students alike the chance to step back into the classroom and benefit from face-to-face-programming.
From workshops introducing students to the fundamentals of engineering to opportunities for students to express their creative side, there is something for everyone to enjoy! The following Rowan-hosted programs will be offered by the Foundation to Salem students at no cost. Transportation will also be provided by the Foundation for students attending in-person programming.
Attracting Women to Engineering (AWE) – Geared toward middle school students, AWE encourages students to work with and learn from College of Engineering faculty and students during workshops that focus on hands-on engineering laboratory experiments, team building, communication, computer training and solving societal problems.
Boys’ Engineering, Science and Technology (BEST) – Geared toward middle school students, BEST encourages students to work with and learn from College of Engineering faculty and students during workshops that focus on hands-on engineering laboratory experiments, team building, communication and computer training.
Rowan’s Introduction for Students to Engineering (RISE) – Geared toward high school students, RISE provides an overview of engineering and what engineers do, along with familiarization of Rowan’s engineering majors to students with an interest in engineering.
Rowan’s Introduction for Students to Engineering (RISE Jr.) – Geared toward students in third through fifth grades, RISE Jr. encourages an exploration of engineering through hands-on projects, demos and learning.
Rowan Music Technology & Music Business Camp – Geared toward high school students, the camp offers students a world-class learning experience on music technology and key aspects of the music business. Please note this camp will still be offered virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Rowan Community Music School Musical Theatre Camp: Auditioning for Theatre – Geared toward high school students, the camp includes private voice lessons, group acting classes and plenty of opportunities to engage with fellow theatre enthusiasts. Please note this camp will still be offered virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
STEAM: Summer Science at Home – Geared toward students in seventh through tenth grades, the workshop allows students to conduct experiments, discover the importance of climate change and explore how everyday choices can make an impact on our world. Please note this camp will still be offered virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Society of Women Engineers: Engineers in Training – Geared toward middle school students, the workshop exposes students to current Rowan engineering students and the lessons they have to share about the field. Please note this camp will still be offered virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Junior Urban Medical Pioneers (JUMP) – Geared toward high school students, the program’s hands-on activities and interactive learning sessions expose students to applied science and provide an overview of a variety of science and healthcare careers.
MedAcademy – Geared toward rising juniors and seniors, the program introduces students to medical school and helps refine their particular interest in health care through lectures, hands-on demonstrations, case-based learning activities and interactive clinical simulations.
