What attracted you to the field of business?
My goal in life is to eventually become a business owner, so I’m looking at the next few years as an opportunity to learn the ins and outs of what makes a successful company. Washington and Lee has an excellent program, which will allow me to take courses in business administration, entrepreneurship, and even other subjects like engineering and cybersecurity. I also plan on remaining in school to earn a master’s degree, which would further deepen my knowledge in the field.
How do you plan on making the most of your college experience?
I plan on getting involved on campus by joining some clubs, possibly even a sorority. I want to be open to whatever opportunities come my way and try new things that might force me outside of my comfort zone. That’s a good thing because of the growth that often comes from pushing yourself into unfamiliar territory. The freedom to grow into my own in a new environment will hopefully allow me to discover a bit more about myself and the life I want to lead.
Why is college so important?
The college experience is so valuable because it challenges young adults to navigate the world by themselves. They learn to make choices, uncover new perspectives, celebrate differences and advocate for themselves. It’s not easy to earn a college degree, but I’m sure, in the end, the experience will be well worth it.
How would you like to make a difference in the world?
My plan for making a difference in the world begins by cementing a stable foundation for myself through my studies and my pursuit of a business. I want to create a business with a core set of values that upholds those values every day through its actions and decisions. Over time, this will allow me to improve and impact my community.
How has the Forman Acton Foundation contributed to your growth as a person and as a student?
Without the Foundation, college for me just wouldn’t have been possible. From financial support to personal encouragement to access to knowledge and expertise, the Foundation has truly changed my life. I feel so optimistic about the next few years because of the confidence I know the Foundation has in me to dream big, achieve the goals I’ve set, and become a force for change in my community and in the world.
