Why did you decide to major in biology?

I chose to major in biology because it allows me to explore many different fields within science and healthcare. I wanted to choose a major that exposes me to a wide range of topics and opportunities. I plan to use this time to discover different specialties and explore different medical fields to find a career path that I feel confident in and that allows me to make a meaningful impact on others.

How were you involved in high school?

I was very involved in my academics and extracurricular activities in high school. I participated in Academic League and Student Council for all four years. I also served as the Student Class President my freshman year, and I was part of the National Honor Society my junior and senior years. Additionally, I was a 12-time varsity athlete throughout all four years. Outside of school, I volunteered regularly through road cleanups and teaching free swim lessons to children during the summer. I also worked as a lifeguard and babysitter, balancing my responsibilities while staying active in my community.

What are you looking forward to most in college?

In college, I plan to get involved by being my outgoing self and taking advantage of all the opportunities available to me. I want to participate in many student organizations, meet new people, study abroad and complete internships. I really want to challenge myself to step out of my comfort zone and try new things in order to grow personally and professionally. I’m looking forward to meeting and learning from people from different backgrounds and creating lasting memories and connections.

Why is the college experience so important?

College is so important because it gives people a chance to grow beyond the classroom. Students meet new people, discover new passions and develop new skills they need to succeed in the real world. Higher education is so important to me because it allows me to dedicate myself to learning about something I am passionate about, hone my skills on that specific subject and eventually use that knowledge in the real world to help others.
