Get to Know Forman Scholar Ryann Mulhorn!
Having always excelled in STEM programs, engineering is Ryann Mulhorn’s calling, and she plans to deepen her understanding of the field by studying electrical and computer engineering at Rowan University in Glassboro, New Jersey. Learn more about Ryann and the plans she has for her college career.
What made you decide to study at Rowan?
At Rowan, and especially in the engineering department, I’ve always felt like the faculty and staff truly care about their students. The dean of engineering is a very visible leader, always connecting and interacting with students. Through Rowan’s program, I know I can excel.
How did you stay involved in high school?
I served as president of the Class of 2024, president of SHS’ chapter of the National Honor Society, vice president of Student Council and vice president of the Tri-M Honor Society. I was involved with varsity academic league, choir, Ram Singers, concert band, pep band, Ram Theatre, the environmental science club, the varsity field hockey team, and the varsity track and field team in winter and spring. Also, I volunteered with Project Restore and was a youth leader.
Are you planning to stay just as active in Rowan’s campus life?
Absolutely! I’d really like to join a co-ed academic fraternity for engineering. I also want to join some sort of activity club to help keep me in shape. My goal is to get as involved in school activities as possible and join any club that interests me.
Why is the college experience so important?
College is important to me because it’s the only way for me to become an engineer. It serves as a means for me to achieve my goals in life. One of those is to work with dynamic power systems to achieve a more efficient and environmentally clean electrical engine. Today’s electric engines are not entirely efficient and use a lot of electricity, not all of which come from renewable sources. If I’m able to help create an electric engine that uses even less electricity but is just as efficient, I think our world and our environment will be much better off.
How has the Forman Acton Foundation contributed to your growth as a person and as a student?
The Foundation has relieved many of the stresses in my life. Academically, they have allowed me to focus more on my studies rather than worry about the financial burdens of higher education. I’ve also grown professionally through interviews and other experiences in business-like settings that have helped prepare me for my career.
