What made you want to study mathematics?
I’ve always been interested in solving complex problems, and my goal is to work as a financial analyst after I graduate. I think studying math at Rutgers provides the best path for me to achieve that goal. The school has an excellent program, and two of my favorite teachers also graduated from Rutgers.
How did you stay involved in high school?
During high school, I was involved in Student Council, Model UN, mock trial, Academic League, bowling, track, soccer and choir. Serving on Student Council offered me many opportunities to not only benefit my high school community but also the greater Salem community through volunteer projects and other community engagement activities.
Why is the pursuit of a college education so important?
College is so valuable because it is such a new experience for all of us to explore. The pursuit of higher education can open our lives to new opportunities and connect us to a lifelong network of advisors, professors and mentors who, I’m sure, will remain in our lives long after college. I’m hoping to make the most of my time at Rutgers by joining their student government group as well as any other clubs and organizations that may interest me once I arrive on campus.
How do you plan on making a difference in the world?
I think even a degree in mathematics has the potential to make a positive impact on my community. By applying the lessons I’ve learned from the field, and especially my ability to analyze and understand data, I have the capability to help out those in need and ensure that all people have what they need to be successful in life.
How has the Forman Acton Foundation contributed to your growth as a person and as a student?
The Foundation has inspired me to use my future college degree as a springboard to achieve whatever in life I set my mind to. Through working with the Foundation’s staff, I’ve come to truly appreciate the value of higher education and the many ways in which it transforms lives for the better. I know I have the power and potential to do great things, and the Foundation will always be there to support me, no matter what.
