Get to Know Forman Scholar Autumn Foote!

Autumn Foote is a natural-born dancer who fell in love with the opportunities for creative expression at Stockton University in Galloway Township, New Jersey. As Autumn prepares to major in liberal studies with a concentration in elementary education, as well as minor in dance with a concentration in performance, learn more about her and the plans she has for her college career.

What attracted you to the field of education?

I decided to study education because I am very passionate about working with children. Teaching kids brings me both happiness and fulfillment, so I think that becoming an elementary teacher is the perfect career path for me. I also want to study dance because it’s always been such a big part of my life, and I want to continue having some sort of creative outlet. My hope is to also teach in a studio, so I can help young kids discover their own passion for dance.

What is your favorite memory from high school?

While I played multiple sports in high school, my favorite was field hockey. In fact, one of the best memories I have from my time on the team is winning three Tri-County Championships. I feel very lucky to have been part of such a successful team, and I had such a good time playing with some of my best friends.

How would you like to make a difference in the world?

The way I plan on making a difference is by working with children. In the classroom, I hope I can show them how to love school by finding ways for them to enjoy learning. In the dance studio, I hope to open their eyes to the beauty and joy that can be found through dance.

What does the pursuit of higher education mean to you?

College is important to me because of what it will unlock for my future. Without college, I wouldn’t know the first thing about being an elementary teacher! My time at Stockton will connect me with like-minded people who share my passions while also introducing me to those who come from different backgrounds or share viewpoints unlike my own. College is a time of great discovery and immense growth – both as a student and as a person.

How has the Forman Acton Foundation contributed to your growth as a person and as a student?

The Foundation has afforded me the opportunity to be a part of a group of individuals who are just as passionate about education as I am. Professionally, the staff has enabled me to practice my public speaking and interviewing skills, which I’m sure will come in handy many times throughout my future career. They are completely invested in my growth and care so much about opening the necessary doors so I can pursue the college experience of my dreams.
