How did you stay involved in high school?
I stayed pretty active throughout my time in high school. I was involved in Student Council, the environmental club, the student newspaper, Ambassadors, the photojournalism club and more! I also volunteered for various projects, including community clean-ups, bake sales and other fundraisers.
What will you miss most about Salem?
My four years at SHS were nothing short of amazing. I made countless memories surrounded by the greatest of friends. Some of my best times were simply laughing with friends in class, after school – pretty much anywhere. Although I’m sure we’ll stay in touch, it’s those friends who I’ll miss most.
What does the pursuit of higher education mean to you?
I have no doubt college will be an incredible, life-changing experience, and I realize that not everyone has the ability to attend. This is why I plan on making the most of the opportunity I’ve been given by excelling in the classroom, building an extended network of peers and mentors, and taking an active role in campus life. College is about so much more than earning a degree – it’s also about growing into a young adult who is concerned about the world around them and committed to making a positive impact.
How do you plan on making a difference in the world?
My goal is to use my degree in environmental science to give back to the Salem community and help safeguard my hometown environment. I’d actually like to work for Salem County in some capacity. That full-circle opportunity would be so valuable to me. Salem has enriched my life in so many ways, and it would mean the world to have a chance to leave my mark on a place that remains such a special place to me.
How has the Forman Acton Foundation contributed to your growth as a person and as a student?
The Foundation’s staff are so passionate about their work, and they truly care about the growth and success of every student in Salem. I feel so fortunate to have the opportunity to continue working with them, as they help me navigate the next few years of college and all of the changes that are in store. I’m so excited about what the future holds!
