Get to Know Forman Scholar Gianna Pelura!

Gianna Pelura has a few career paths in mind, but one thing is for sure: She wants to make a living helping others. As Gianna begins her studies in biochemistry at Rowan University in Glassboro, New Jersey, this fall, learn more about her and the plans she has for her college career.

What are your career goals?

I’ve always enjoyed science, and I want to help people as part of any future career. I have my sights set on attending graduate school to become either a pharmacist or a physician assistant. My thought was that studying biochemistry in undergrad would be a good place to start and provide a solid foundation for my graduate studies.

How did you stay involved in high school?

In high school, I played tennis all four years and softball in my senior year. I was even named a captain of the tennis team for my junior and senior years. Also, I was a part of Ram Theatre, and I joined choir during my last two years of high school. The opening night of Mama Mia (my senior-year show) is one of my favorite memories!

What are you hoping to gain from your time at Rowan?

Obviously, I’m hoping to learn a lot, especially since I have plans to continue my higher education in graduate school. At the same time, I’d like to meet as many new people as possible. By joining Rowan’s tennis club, volunteering and getting an on-campus job, I’m sure I’ll have the opportunity to cross paths with plenty of new faces – and, hopefully, make some lasting memories in the process.

Why is the college experience so valuable?

The college experience is so important to me because it will introduce me to new experiences that I would not have been exposed to otherwise. My time at Rowan will allow me to step out of my comfort zone and grow as a person on so many levels. I’m sure I’ll hit some bumps along the way, but the experience as a whole will present so many valuable lessons that I’ll be able to take into graduate school and my future career, whatever that may be.

How has the Forman Acton Foundation contributed to your growth as a person and as a student?

The Foundation has contributed to my academic and professional growth by enabling me to attend the college best suited for my needs and life goals. Without the Foundation’s support, this all wouldn’t have been possible. Now that I’m a Forman Scholar, I strive to serve as an inspiration and a role model for others through my achievements in and out of the classroom.
